A venomous serpent strikes unprovoked,
leaving poison where peace reigned before.
Two monks look on with a placid yawn
as every mongoose rallies for war. In a state
above indifference and bald aggression—
beyond escalating vengeance to teach
them a lesson—the GurSikh strides with
grace. Upholding justice with charity
and compassion, she uplifts the hopeless
in a miraculous fashion, turning poison
to amrit with a radiant face. Falling ever
more deeply in love with the One, she
becomes an oasis of peace. And walking
in step with the will of her beloved,
giving freely, her virtues increase.
